Our Evaluation Methodology

How Superior Solar structures data, evaluates installers, and maintains transparency.

The Problem with Solar Directories

If you search for "best solar installers," you will inevitably find numbered lists ranking companies from #1 to #10. Behind the scenes, these lists are almost entirely pay-to-play. Companies pay lead-generation networks for placement, and "reviews" are often scraped from across the web without confirming if the reviewer ever actually installed a solar system.

Our Approach: Facts Over Fluff

Superior Solar was built to be a data-driven marketplace, not an affiliate blog. We do not publish numbered "Best Of" rankings because the "best" installer is subjective and highly dependent on a homeowner's specific goals (e.g., lowest price vs. premium battery backup vs. fastest installation).

What We Evaluate

1. Service Area Accuracy
We require installers to explicitly state which ZIP codes and cities they serve. We do not allow a company headquartered 300 miles away to claim they are "local" without stated operational coverage in that area.
2. Technical Capabilities
Solar is no longer just panels on a roof. We track specific installation capabilities: Rooftop Solar PV, Battery Storage Integration (crucial for markets like California/Hawaii), Roofing Services, and EV Charger Installation.
3. Financial Options
We document which financing options an installer actually offers in-house (Cash, Loan, Lease, PPA). This prevents homeowners from wasting time talking to an installer who only sells PPAs when the homeowner wants to buy in cash.
4. Licensing and Years in Business
We favor transparency regarding an installer's operational history. We track the stated years in business and strongly encourage installers to list their specific contractor license numbers and NABCEP certifications on their profiles.

Where Our Information Comes From

We do not employ investigators to verify every data point. Our platform acts as a structured directory pulling from defined sources.

Installer-Provided Details

Companies claim their profiles and self-report their service areas, capabilities, and financing options. We expect honesty but do not independently audit their operational limits.

Government & Utility Policies

Incentive amounts, net metering policies (like NEM 3.0), and SREC program details are sourced directly from state legislatures, utility commission filings, and program administrators.

Public Records

Contractor license numbers and NABCEP certifications are public records. We encourage installers to link these directly for homeowner verification.

Internal Cost Modeling

Statewide cost averages and payback periods are aggregated estimates based on current market trends, not firm quotes. Actual prices always require a custom home proposal.

Our Stance on Reviews

As detailed in our Reviews Policy, we currently do not aggregate or publish star ratings. Until we establish a closed-loop verification system ensuring every review comes from a contracted homeowner, we believe no review is better than a fake review.

The "Sample" Badge

As we build our network, you may see profiles marked with a "Sample" badge. These profiles use mock data to demonstrate the platform's capabilities and layout. We clearly label these to ensure total transparency with homeowners utilizing our directory.
